Babur still needed to escape from the Uzbeks, and he selected India as a refuge instead of Badakhshan, that was to the north of capital of Afghanistan. Babur started for Lahore city in 1524 however found that Daulat Khan Lodi had been driven out by forces sent by Ibrahim Lodi. Once Babur discovered city, the Lodi army marched out and his army was routed. In response Babur burned city for two days then he marched to putting Alam Khan another rebel uncle of Lodi as governor. Alam Khan was quickly overthrown and fled to Afghanistan. Babur supplied Alam Khan with troops who later joined up with Daulat Khan Lodi. With about 30,000 troops they besieged Ibrahim Lodi at Delhi. The sultan simply defeated and drove off Alam's army and Babur feel that he wouldn't permit him to occupy the Punjab.
